This movie requires Flash Player 9

Receiving BOTOX® or DYSPORT® can dramatically reduce wrinkles.  This simple in-office procedure is administered by Dr. Bartels.  Movement of the facial muscles causes the skin to crease.  As skin becomes less elastic over time, repeated frowning and other expressions may create visible lines and wrinkles even when your face is relaxed.  By blocking nerve/muscle impulses, the skin wrinkles “relax” and soften, often effectively taking years off your appearance. BOTOX® and DYSPORT®  (Botulinum Toxin Type A) are a purified protein that can be administered in a simple, nonsurgical procedure to temporarily reduce the 11’s – those moderate to severe frown lines between the brows – in people ages 18-65.  Injections have been widely used for cosmetic treatments for over a decade, and the safety profile is unparalleled by any other cosmetic procedure.  A very small amount of the diluted drug is injected directly into the muscle in the desired treatment area.  The procedure is quick, confidential and relatively painless.  Improvement can be seen after the first few days and results last up to four months.

The most commonly treated areas of the face using BOTOX® and Dysport® include: Glabella the frown lines or vertical creases between the eyebrows Crow’s Feetthe wrinkles at the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet) Forehead the horizontal lines across the forehead.

BOTOX® Cosmetic FAQ

How can I be sure I’m getting real BOTOX® Cosmetic? Only licensed and trained healthcare professionals have the experience necessary to administer BOTOX® Cosmetic. Allergan, Inc., the maker of BOTOX® Cosmetic, is the only source for healthcare professionals to purchase the product.

Is BOTOX® Cosmetic right for me? People ages 18 to 65 choose to talk to their doctors about being treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic for a variety of reasons. They may be concerned that their frown lines between the brows make them look tired, stressed, or unapproachable. You may have your own reasons, so talk to your healthcare provider today to find out if BOTOX® Cosmetic is right for you.

What causes frown lines? The 11’s – those lines that appear between your brows – actually result from powerful muscle contractions. When you concentrate or frown, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. After years of frequent contraction, those creases can linger even after the muscles have relaxed.

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work? Very low doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles responsible for the frown lines between the brows. By blocking the release of the chemical that causes the muscles to contract, BOTOX® Cosmetic enables them to relax, so the skin appears smoother.

What is BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment like? BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered during a simple 10-minute treatment in our office. Nonsurgical. Tiny injections are administered directly into the muscles that cause frown lines between the brows No downtime. Often called a lunchtime procedure, treatment is brief and requires no recovery Minimal and brief discomfort. No anesthesia is required, although your healthcare provider may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream prior to injecting. Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection.

How quickly will I see a difference? Within 1 to 2 days, you may notice a softening in the appearance of your frown lines. The area between your brows may continue to improve for up to a month.

How long can I expect my results to last? Visible results have been shown to last up to 4 months. Your own results may vary – be sure to talk to your healthcare provider about what you can expect and when to schedule your next appointment.

Will I still be able to make facial expressions? With BOTOX® Cosmetic, you won’t look like you’ve had work done. The muscle activity that causes frown lines is simply reduced, so you can still show expression – smile, frown, or look surprised – but without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

Will I experience any side effects? The most common side effects following injection include temporary eyelid droop and nausea. Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection.

Are there any serious side effects? Serious heart problems and serious allergic reactions have been reported rarely. If you think you are having an allergic reaction or other reactions, such as difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing, call your doctor immediately. Patients with certain neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.

Is BOTOX® Cosmetic expensive? Actually, BOTOX® Cosmetic is affordable. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the cost per treatment in the United States averages between $300 and $500, with results that last up to 4 months.
