Cosmetic Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers such as Restylane®, Juvederm® Radiesse® and Perlane® replace lost volume and restore youthful contours to smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Commonly treated areas include the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds) and from the corners of your mouth toward the chin (marionette lines). In addition, Restylane® and Juvederm® can be used to add fullness to lips, and along with Botox® or Dysort® to treat especially deep glabella or forehead lines. Impressive results are immediate and long lasting, and can be achieved without invasive surgery or significant down time. These fillers are very safe, and they are injected into the skin using local anesthetic to minimize discomfort. The differences between the fillers help determine where they are best utilized, and Dr. Bartels will discuss their appropriateness for your individual circumstances.   VISIT OUR EVENTS & PROMOTIONS WEB PAGE.

Restylane® and Juvederm®
These are similar fillers made by different manufacturers.  They are both composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your skin whose function is to provide fullness and elasticity.  As dermal fillers, they add volume within the skin.  After treatment with Restylane® or Juvederm®, the hydrophilic, or “water loving” nature of the molecules allows them to bind many times their weight in water as they slowly reabsorb.  This process helps maintain volume for about six months.  Restylane® and Juvederm® can be used to treat lines nearly anywhere on the face, as well as replace lost volume and fullness to the lips.  The procedures are customized to your specific needs so the cost will vary from patient to patient.  Dr. Bartels will provide a cost estimate based on your needs after an initial consultation and discussion with you.   Read RealSelf answers to questions on fillers by Dr. Bartels

Radiesse®
Radiesse® dermal filler is an FDA-approved, next generation filler used for the correction of facial lines and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds.  Made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel that stimulates the body to produce new collagen, Radiesse® is injected into the skin through a simple and minimally invasive procedure.  In many patients the effects of Radiesse® filler may last one year or more.  Because of its composition, Radiesse® is optimally used to treat deep lines and creases in the nasolabial folds and marionette lines (accentuated smile lines).  It is not recommended for treating lips or glabella and forehead lines, where Restylane® and Juvederm® may work well.  Radiesse® treatment is customized for each patient, and as such, the cost varies.  It is slightly more expensive for an initial treatment than the other fillers, but it also may require fewer subsequent visits for re-treatment, ultimately saving money and time.  Dr. Bartels will consult with you for a recommendation as to how Radiesse® can best meet your individual needs.     Dr. Bartels is a RealSelff contributor.  Find, share and discuss the real story about any cosmetic procedure.  Get answers directly from the facial cosmetic experts.
